Division for Services for People with Disabilities

DSPD Services

place holder

Work Inc. serves Division for Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) and Vocational Rehab (VR) in Salt Lake and Utah counties. We are currently serving more than 70 customers in these two regions. Over the years we have served a variety of caseloads, including mental health, brain injuries and DDMR. We have had a great deal of success in helping customers to meet their needs and goals. We are currently working with the Supported Employment (SEI) contract, the Pilot Project, Supported Living Hourly (SLH) and Service Brokering for DSPD, and the Supported Job Based Training (SJBT) contract for VR.

SEI

Working with Supported Employment has been a long time specialty of Work Inc. and we have had a great deal of success. Our placement rate is at 95% and there are several customers that we have had has as long as six years.

From the time of the intake to the customer’s first day on the job, Work Inc. employees are trained to be pro-active and to help each customer overcome any barriers that may stop them from getting the job they want. Work Inc. will help with interview preparation, job searching, contacting employers, job coaching, setting up accommodations, and transportation. Oftentimes one of the biggest barriers that our customers face is communicating with the employer. Work Inc. will facilitate that communication process.

At Work Inc. we pride ourselves on putting people into competitive positions where they can interact with the community, just like their peers. Customers are taken out into the community and placed in jobs at which they can stay for as long as they would like. Work Inc. customers are paid the same wages as anyone else doing the same job. There are no enclaves and no pre-set jobs or positions to be filled. Work Inc. employees spend their time developing relationships with employers that meet each customer’s individual needs.

Work Inc also has a long-standing relationship with VR. We ensure that every customer has the opportunity to receive services from them. We help our customers through the VR orientation and intake process. We do this so that if there is something that DSPD cannot provide, such as clothes or a bus pass, VR is there to help. With VR involved there is also potential for more job coaching hours, should a customer need additional support when starting a new job.

SLH

Supported Living Hourly is a service that Work Inc. first started to provide for some of our SEI customers. We found that sometimes there were barriers to employment that were not necessarily part of the services provided under the SEI contract. For example, sometimes a customer will have severe health problems or need help with medication management. By making SLH available to Work Inc. customers, we are here to help overcome some of these barriers.

Service Brokering

Service Brokering is for people who are still on the DSPD waitlist. Work Inc. employees help customers to find services and accommodations that are available to them now. We focus on helping all the Service Brokering customers to establish themselves with VR. We also help them find creative solutions to serious challenges.

Sometimes a customer needs a wheelchair ramp and there are no funds to provide one for him or her. Work Inc. will help to search out a company that may be willing to set up a payment plan or do the ramp as a tax write-off. The Service Brokering contract enables Work Inc. to help people who need it, even if they are not fully funded through DSPD.
